A man has died following a collision between a car and motorcycle near Taree this afternoon.

About 5.45pm today (Tuesday 17 January 2017), a 60-year-old man was riding a BMW motorcycle east along Blackhead Road at Hallidays Point.

About 300 metres from the intersection with The Lakes Way the motorcycle and a four wheel drive collided.

The motorcycle rider was thrown from his machine and appears to have died immediately.

Officers from Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command attended and commenced inquiries.

The driver of the car, a 50-year-old man, was treated initially at the scene for shock and then conveyed to Taree Police Station.

Blackhead Road remains closed with traffic diversions in place.

Police from the Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit continue with inquiries into the cause of the crash.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner outlining the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
