She is still running in the under 12’s.
At the Combined High Schools State Athletics Carnival she once again showed that her training and dedication are making a difference.
At the carnival she competed in both the 100m and 200m u12 girls sprints.
Shari’s mother, Anja Hurdman told News Of The Area, “She won gold medals in both events!”
Shari took out the U12 girls 200m final 26.07 seconds which was a personal best and the U12 girls 100m final 12.86 seconds.
To put this in perspective the women’s world record for the 200m has been held by Florence Griffith Joyner since 1988 at 21.34 seconds and the 100m also held by Joyner at 10.49 seconds.
“Warm, sunny days during the competition were ideally suited to Shari.
“Proud coach Bob Walkley was there to help Shari prepare and warm up for each race, keeping her focused, despite pre-race jitters.
‘With her long and powerful stride she was able to overcome her nerves and achieve two convincing wins,” she said.
Her next challenge will be the upcoming All-Schools state competition in late September where both public and private schools combine.
The NOTA wishes Shari and the other athletes that competed from Port Stephens High Schools their congratulations and best wishes for the All-Schools state competition.
