The club recently celebrated in fine style at their Changeover Lunch held at Soldiers Point Bowling Club, following their Annual General Meeting.

A new milestone was reached when member Ann Gibson was elected as the first lady President of the club.

Ann follows close on the heels of outgoing President, husband Ron who proudly introduced Ann to the gathering at lunch.

Ann Gibson has worked tirelessly over the years for this very active club in various roles including Media Officer, and will fulfill this new role with the same passion and vigour.

“It was an honour to be accepted as the first lady President,” Ann Gibson told Bay News Of The Area.

This year the club  enters its 34th year.

Five and a half years ago, Port Stephen’s Probus was a men’s only organisation.

Once the doors were open to women, the club went from strength to strength, almost doubling the number of members which now includes couples and singles.

Ms Gibson commends the great Probus committee, who strive to guide the club in the right direction for members.

“The club is changing in a good way and we know that all members need to be considered in the planning of activities,” she said.

“With a club this age, there is a lot of tradition that should not be forgotten particularly when there are still members who have been around almost that long,” Ms Gibson added.

It has become very evident that recent inductions have refreshed and invigorate the club.

Ann Gibson commends two men who have served on the committee for a number of years and are now retiring from their positions.

George Hammond has served for the last 10 years in a full time role and Leon Lindsay  in a part time role for twice as long.

Both men were bestowed with life membership and  have served the club tirelessly with George and Leon’s commitment being appreciated by all who know of  their contribution.

Carol Townsend was also presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for her contribution with Leon and Ann.
