THE Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest Family Research Group has a busy time ahead.

Seniors Week is coming up and the Research Group is offering members and the public some free advice and research time at their Myall Street Office.

“On Sunday and Monday 5 and 6 March, those days will be free for anyone who would like to look and see if they have any convict connections,” Judith Glover told News Of The Area.

“As well on Saturday 11 March it will be free for anyone to research any Anzacs in their family tree,” Judith said.

And there’s more on the agenda.

The 50 members of the Family Research Group are also busy preparing for their annual Garage Sale on Easter Saturday 15 April.

‘’The garage sale is held at the Masonic Hall and everything is for sale, just offer us a price, it all has to go,” Judith said.

“What we cannot sell is donated to a charity.”

The group is also happy to take donations of goods to sell.

“Every half year we seem to be very poor, so our Easter garage sale really boosts our funds,” Judith said with a laugh.

They’d also like to say thank you for a number of recent grants.

$500 from MidCoast Council went towards purchasing some new meeting chairs.

With a further $2,000 from the Department of Social Services, they were able to buy new computer chairs, two gazebos and some fold up tables to be used for their outdoor stalls at days such as the Australia Day Breakfast, Grey and Thespian Mardi Gras and Riverside Festival.

If you’d like to join the Family Research Group it costs a one-off fee of $15 and $30 a year for singles, $40 for couples.

They meet the second and fourth Saturday of the month and every week on Sunday and Monday between the hours of 10am to 2pm at their headquarters, Shop 3, 209 Myall Street, Tea Gardens

The family research newsletter can also be found online at the CTC website under local directories/family history.
