THE Community Wellbeing Program set up to assist those residents living in the government imposed ‘Red Zone’ are now offering a new class.

Residents can now learn how to make knitted tooth fairies with all materials provided.

The class takes place at the Port Stephens Church of Christ on Fridays from 10am to 11.30pm followed by the community cuppa and free lunch.

The course is currently in its third of six weeks and is looking to be extended due to its popularity.

All wool and materials have been donated to the program for everyone to use.

The Community Wellbeing Program organisers also been running a monthly market stall at the Salt Ash markets to raise money for events and community classes like this.

All items sold have been donated by the community and can be purchased with  a donation determined by the buyer.

The community has currently raised $918.35 from the markets to be put towards other programs.

One of the program’s key organisers, Julie Bailey, told News Of The Area: “We love the stall and at the end of the day we upload the result on the community Facebook page.”

“Connie Grant is teaching the knitting program and the ladies are all having a ball.”

The knitting class is taught while the community prepare the weekly free lunch.

“All I can hear while I’m in the kitchen is them laughing and giggling – it’s really beautiful,” Julie said.

There is also a relaxation and mindfulness class taught at the same time on the same premises.

Everyone affected by the contamination crisis is welcome to participate in any of the events organised by the Community Wellbeing Program.
