Artworks to the theme of ‘Message’ were reviewed by Anne Latter, an accomplished artist and judge from Sydney who was very complimentary of their artistic standard and quality. Kate Washington, MP declared the exhibition open and had some heartfelt words to say about The Gallery and our community. For their decade of dedication, GIG’s former President and Secretary Trevor and Cheryl Cook were each presented with lifetime membership. Eva Nauckhoff de Richebourge’s ‘Love’ took first prize in the painting category. “A very engaging painting, showing an excellent understanding of watercolour and composition, beautifully rendered,” said Anne Latter. ‘Nurturing Music’ by Desly Voigt was complimented for its colour, composition and impressive relationship to cubism; and a special mention was made of Emilie Tseronis’ ‘Love Hurts’. Taking out the Ceramics first prize was Rosie Lucas for her fine white vessels with restrained markings, surface variations and depiction of coastal erosion problems. David Matheson’s ‘Earth Mother’ was highly commended and his ‘Party Line’ gained a special mention. Michael Harvey tinkled the ivories and a singalong broke out, lead by GIG’s president Lesly Stevenson. By Colleen MacSWEEN Lorraine Davenport adds a bright burst of colour to evening!
