THE Go Local First campaign wants shoppers to support Cowper’s small businesses.

This Federal Government-funded campaign is calling on shoppers to back small businesses by purchasing goods and services from them either in-person or online.

Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan says small businesses account for a third of Australia’s economic output, so their recovery will be critical to Australia’s national economic recovery.

“The Go Local First campaign is about encouraging every resident in Cowper to back small businesses by purchasing goods or services from them to help get them back on their feet,” he said.

“Small businesses are responsible for paying wages to almost half of Australia’s workforce. It also employs millions of people across Australia.”

Local shopper Kerryann Darby visits Port Macquarie’s Real Food Markets held each Tuesday in the Port Central forecourt.

“I really enjoy visiting the markets each week, especially for the organic foods on offer,” she said.

“I really enjoy talking with all the stall holders about their produce.

“The service is also exceptional, and everyone is really lovely to deal with.”

Rollands Plains’ organic vegetable farmer Desley Bailey says local shoppers are vital to her business.

“Without our local shoppers we would not have a business.” she said.

Mr Conaghan said small businesses are part of the unique fabric of Australian life, helping their communities.

“When people spend locally, most of that money stays in the local community.

“They invest in community sport, local charities and school fairs – many of which would struggle without the frequent and generous support of their local small businesses,” he said.

The Go Local First campaign is also about encouraging small business owners to use other small businesses as suppliers.
