Great Lakes Council’s Local Government Week

Local Government Week kicked off on Monday 3 August and Great Lakes Council has a variety of experiences for the community with a packed activities program.

The week was launched by Mayor Cr Jan McWilliams who hosted a community morning tea on Tuesday.

Open Days are planned at Ageing and Disability Services in  Forster and Hawks Nest, and Great Lakes Tourism in Forster, and activities for children of all ages are on at the Forster, Tea Gardens, Stroud and Nabiac Libraries.

The YMCA will host a behind-the-scenes tour of the maintenance works being undertaken on the indoor pool at the Great Lakes Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

To see the full list of events, visit Council’s website or drop into Council for a Local Government Week events brochure.

Great Lakes Council say: We are celebrating Local Government Week this first week in August and I hope everyone has found an opportunity to come along, say hello, participate and enjoy a cuppa with us.

It’s an important week for us because we have the chance to showcase some of the services you might not be aware that we offer.

Please feel very welcome to attend the Ageing and Disability’s Centre’s Open Day on Wednesday 5 August and view the client’s art exhibition.

The Centre is located next to the Library in Breese Parade, it’s a beautiful building and the activities and events held there will surprise you.

Great Lakes Tourism will also hold an Open Day at the Visitor Information Centre in Little Street on Wednesday.

You can drop in anytime from 9am – 4pm and find out how you can benefit from the services on offer.

On Thursday, head down to the Great Lakes Aquatic and Leisure Centre and take a sneak peek at the renovations taking place on the pool.

The pool is set to reopen shortly after an extensive closure, so this is your chance to see what’s been taking place behind the scenes.

You need to make a booking to join this free tour.

If that wasn’t enough, there are loads of children’s activities in our Library all week, plus there’s a Buddhist talk “the wisdom of forgiveness” – truly there’s something for everyone this week.
