One flyer calls on local males to consider talking to their doctors about having the test and are alerted that up to 40 per cent of our aged male population (median age in the area is 60) experience prostate and/or bladder problems.

The other flyer titled, ‘Has Your Man Been Tested’, addresses female partners, suggesting they ‘nudge their men in the direction of their GPs for a chat’.

Details regarding the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Prostate Support Group appears on both flyers, which were distributed by members. It meets on the last Tuesday of the month (except December) at 2pm at Benchmark on Booner (street), Hawks Nest.

Members have a wide range of experience and treatments and share news of prostate cancer research and men’s health in general. The meeting is confidential, private, informative, educational and friendly in nature. Group members have a coffee, beer or wine as they share developments in treatment and results.

Men can just turn up at a meeting, or in confidence have a brief word about the group with secretary Jim on 4997 1149.
