A group of senior students go there each Tuesday for several hours as part of their Work experience program.
All students and the two accompanying staff love their time at Bunnings, receiving compliments from customers and staff alike.
Working at local businesses like Bunnings gives these students invaluable insights, and allows them opportunities which they would otherwise not encounter.
Work experience is a valuable asset for all students to participate in.
It shows employers that the students have knowledge of workplaces and how they should behave in them.
Many skills learnt in one workplace can be transferred to other industries.
Lue Fagan of Irrawang High School told News Of The Area, “They have now become part of the Bunnings team.”
While on work experience the students are learning many life skills including: managing public transport to and from Bunnings, interacting with staff and customers, showing initiative and working as part of a team.
“Whilst there, they face the shelves, return misplaced items using a scanner, tidy the aisles and general cleaning,” she said.
Learning customer service skills and showing initiative are valuable life skills.
