Ten-year-old Jackson recently lost his uncle, Lindsay, to a heart attack, and was struggling with wanting to do something to help but not knowing how.
Lindsay Smith was only 56 years of age when he passed away suddenly, walking to the shop for his morning paper.
Jackson’s Mum Kylie Brown told News Of The Area, “Over dinner one night last week, Jackson said, I feel really bad that uncle Lindsay died, I think I want to help other families to not feel like I do.”
“We asked him how he would like to help families and he said he would like to raise money so people can get their heart checked more often.”
“He said he wanted to knock on people’s doors and ask for money; we explained that he can’t really do that, so we contacted The Heart Foundation who suggested doing My Marathon,” she said.
As soon as the idea was suggested to Jackson, he jumped on board and wanted to start straight away.
He began planning on Tuesday last week, and had his page registered and up and running by Friday.
Jackson’s ‘My Marathon’ will see him walking 42.2kms over the next four weeks.
In his first day he completed three kilometres, and has already raised $380 in his first two days.
Kylie said, “We are so proud of Jackson and love that he wants to help people.”
“He really is a sensitive little soul with a heart of gold!”
