FAMILIES in the Hunter hoping to take a caravanning holiday will still be faced with huge registration fees according to State MP for Port Stephens Kate Washington.

Ms Washington has said that the Government has failed to keep a 2014 promise that it would reduce the cost of registering a caravan in NSW with Minister for Roads Duncan Gay yet to live up to his commitment.

“Caravan owners across the Hunter shouldn’t be forced to pay more than double what their neighbour’s in Queensland pay and eight times what their Victorian neighbours’ are charged,” she said.

At the time it cost $449 to register a caravan over 2.5 tonnes in NSW compared to approximately $175 in Queensland and less than $50 in Victoria.

Ms Washington said, ““The Hunter is well serviced for caravan parks, with sites in Port Stephens and throughout the Hunter Valley.”

“Caravan holidays are an affordable way for hundreds of families across the Hunter to take a break and relax with loved ones’” said Ms Washington.
