Agency owners Paul and Barbara Tobias said the giveaway was their way of thanking the Coffs Harbour community for their ongoing support and clientele.

The agency opened its doors five decades ago on April 1, 1973, and has gone from strength to strength.

The couple, who are the third franchise owners, purchased the business in 2011 and have since also opened LJ Hooker offices in nearby Woolgoolga, Urunga, Nambucca Heads and Macksville.

“To have operated for 50 years really says something about the LJ Hooker network and the people behind the brand, we believe we are the only real estate business in our footprint that has operated for that length of time,” said Mr Tobias.

“We’ve lost count of just how many homes we have sold over the years, but we have certainly helped generations of families to find their slice of paradise on the North Coast.

“We have always believed in the integrity and longevity of the LJ Hooker brand.

“It is a name that people trust, which is reflected in the volume of repeat business we have attracted over the decades.”

LJ Hooker General Manager of Network, Stephen Mutton grew up in Coffs Harbour and has a special connection to the local office.

His great uncles Peter and Dan Seccombe were the original owners of the business which is one of the first LJ Hooker franchises to open in regional NSW.

“It is a marvellous milestone to be celebrating 50 years in business and importantly, serving a regional community – we congratulate everyone on this achievement,” Mr Mutton said.

“Sir Leslie Hooker used to fly people up to Coffs Harbour to buy house and land packages from my great uncles.

“So, the office has also played a part in the residential development of the town.”

LJ Hooker Coffs Harbour has operated in different locations over the decades, but in 2011 relocated back to its original site at 1/22 Moonee Street.

The business is just nine years younger than the town’s iconic Big Banana.

In 1973, a house within walking distance from Park Beach, just moments from the heart of the CBD, cost $9,750.

Today, the same property would fetch between $750,000 to $820,000.

Mr Tobias said their success in the Mid-North Coast area was also a testament to his hardworking team of around 30 staff.

They will celebrate with a cake and a special visit from the LJ Hooker Bear.

“To be successful you need to have the right people working for you and we have been fortunate to have a dedicated team who love living in this region and are passionate about helping others to make a move here,’’ he said.
