Macksville Sea Eagles send of 2023 season, plan for 2024

Under 18s captain Finnian Walsh has just secured a contract with the Manly Sea Eagles for the next two seasons.

IT has been a big week for the Macksville Sea Eagles Rugby League Club, with the hosting of both their annual awards night and annual general meeting (AGM).

Following the AGM, the following coaches have been named to lead the Club in 2024.

First Grade: Matt Hyland and Jimmy Collison.

Reserve Grade: Dave Lindsay and Ryan Whyte.

Under 18s: Karl Spear.

Ladies Tackle: Simon Dent.

The following office bearers have also been elected to guide the club off-field next season.

President: Dean Hillery.

Vice President: Simon Dent.

Treasurer: Tracey Spear.

Secretary: Mandy Spear.

Registrar: Karen Atkins.

Sponsorship: Andrew Welsh.

The General Committee consists of Bernie Spear, Luke Shields, Todd Bartlett, Darren Hoffman, Nigel Wilbow, Terry Richardson and Karl Spear.

At the club’s annual awards night, players, coaches, officials, volunteers and club legends were honoured for their contributions to the club.

The 2023 President’s Award was awarded to Wezley Brown, while Life Membership was awarded to Darren Hoffman.

Perpetual awards were also won by Zane Doolan, Dave Lindsay, Jill Llhou, Finnian Walsh, Brayth Ledger, Bill Cockbain, Josh Bartlett, Karl Spear, Rodrick Darcy and Rhiley Maxwell.

Sea Eagles Player of the Year was awarded to Matt Hyland, while Club Person of the Year went to Andrew Welsh.

In first grade, Billy Cockbain and Zane Doolan both picked up multiple awards.

In reserve grade, David Lindsay won the Players’ Player while Lachlan Smith won Spectators’ Best and Fairest.

In the Ladies League Tag, Charlie Dent took out both Players’ Player and Best and Fairest, with Layla Smith also taking out multiple awards.

In the Under 18s, Brayth Ledger took out the unique combination of Most Improved and Leading Try Scorer.

Finnian Walsh, who has just secured a contract with the Manly Sea Eagles for the next two seasons, took out the Best and Fairest award.

“Our club would like to congratulate our under 18s captain Finn Walsh on securing a contract with the Manly Sea Eagles,” a Club spokesperson said.

“Finn is an unassuming young man who has plenty of talent and is an absolute competitor.

“We wish Finn all the best and we know he will certainly make the most of this fantastic opportunity.”

Looking forward to 2024, the Committee is hoping for more of the community to get involved in the club.

“New faces are more than welcome to help this great club continue to grow and prosper.”
