Man arrested for drug possession aboard train in Newcastle

A man is due to face court after allegedly being detected in possession of the drugs ‘ice’ and cannabis aboard a train in Newcastle.

About 2pm yesterday (Thursday 8 January, 2015), Police Transport Command officers, assisted by the Dog Unit, were conducting an operation at Broadmeadow Railway Station

Officers boarded a train, which was travelling between Central and Grafton, and spoke with a 47-year-old man on board.

A subsequent search found the man to allegedly be in possession of 21 resealable bags containing methylamphetamine, or ice, and four further bags containing cannabis.

He was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with supplying a prohibited drug – indictable quantity, and possession of a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 9 January 2015).
