Mayor Jan McWilliams gives her monthly update

Welcome back everyone to another very busy year at Great Lakes Council.    We have just experienced another bumper summer tourism season, which contributes an enormous financial benefit to our region.Great Lakes Mayor's column

My congratulations to the following Great Lakes residents who have been recognised with Australia Day Honours:

Captain Ernest Alfred Flint, Coomba Park – Order of Australia Medal (General Division);

Ms Kathleen Mary Milford, North Arm Cove – Order of Australia Medal (General Division);

Ms Wendy Marlene Borchers, Tuncurry – Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia;

   Mr Arthur Robert Baker, Bulahdelah – Order of Australia Medal (General Division).

I also congratulate all of the Great Lakes Australia Day Award recipients – Sportsperson of the Year Amber Hargreaves (Forster), Young Citizen of the Year Ellie Gooch (Bulahdelah), Citizen of the Year Rosslyn Dreise (Forster) and a Special Award to Joy and Beau Burt who have volunteered tirelessly since 2000 for Council’s Ageing and Disability Services.

I’m sure everyone was glad when the Forster Library reopened on Tuesday 27 January after a week’s closure caused when heavy rainfall caused a flash flood inside the Library on Tuesday 20 January.

I’m very pleased to say that no Library events had to be cancelled and all were relocated to the Council meeting rooms during the week’s closure.
