JUST about every car enthusiast in Medowie and the greater area was accounted for on Sunday.
They were at the Medowie Car show, admiring a massive turnout of vintage, classic and show cars.
News Of The Area spoke to David Feneley, who has been organising this successful event for the past 12 years.
“We are proud of the event we have created, and that Medowie loves it as much as they do.”
“We have no major sponsors, it’s all organised by us and the Bull n Bush hotel, with a donation this year by the guys at Mace Family Customs.”
“We look forward to bringing the car show back for many years yet,” he said.
Car owners, enthusiasts and admirers are invited to attend the show free of charge, and just enjoy being surrounded by beautiful cars.
A special element was added to the car show this year, with attendees being asked for donations to assist a local family through a really tough time.
Last week, Corporal Anthony ‘Tubby’ Taylor, lost his life at his home in Medowie whilst working on the family car.
He leaves behind his wife and three sons.
Tony was a RAAF BAE systems Avionics Tech.
Chris Doohan, Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Port Stephens Council, decided to do something for the family during the event and try and raise some funds.
He enlisted the generosity again of the Bull n Bush hotel, and arranged for collection buckets to be passed around, and for the proceeds from all the raffles to be donated to the Taylor family.
Chris told News Of The Area, “So stoked to see the people of Medowie rally when a family is in need.”
“This tragedy has shocked everyone, and the gestures of so many make me proud to be part of this wonderful community.”
“It’s important for people not connected to the family to be able to feel like they are helping.”
“Donations from $1 to $100 have been thrown in the collection bucket, and every single cent will be handed over to the RAAF Padre, to pass on to the family,” Chris said.
