This year their chosen study area was the beautiful country of Nepal.

The ladies of the CWA study the people, their customs, culture, living conditions, agriculture and handicrafts.

Medowie CWA recently celebrated their International Day with some very special guests.

The guest speak for this year, speaking about Nepal, was Anne Buckley, a lawyer from Maitland.
She has trekked in Nepal and witnessed firsthand this wonderful country.
Her insights about the country and its people, and especially the women, were at times confronting.

This celebration was even more special in that Medowie CWA had the World President of the ‘Association of Country Women of the World’, Ruth Shanks, speak to the attendees about the work the association does for those women in hardship around the world.

Stephanie Van Huisstede from Medowie CWA, told News Of The Area, “The women in attendance were shown some wonderful images of women who were given the opportunity to educate themselves with various skills, which allowed them to purchase equipment, set up businesses, educate their children and take responsibility for making their own and their children’s lives better.

To celebrate the people of Nepal and the Medowie CWA fruit of the year, the cooks prepared a feast for all the guests.

They dined on a meat and vegetable stew and a chicken dish served with rice.

For dessert, they had quandong (the Medowie CWA 2017 flora study) jam, coconut slice and cheesecake with quandong puree.
