Mental Health Round commemorated at Medowie FC

Reserve grade captains from Medowie FC and Cooks Hill United lead their sides out during Mental Health Round.

MEDOWIE Football Club commemorated Northern NSW Football’s Mental Health Round from 2-4 June.

Mental health awareness footballs were provided to players from the Club’s junior teams while senior side captains wore armbands signifying the round.

Medowie FC’s Steve Withey told News Of The Area the cause was one “close to my heart”.

“My family suffers from mental health issues and I have lost friends and work colleagues also.

“It is always important to keep the lines of communication open when you are struggling.

“It’s okay to not be okay.”

On Saturday afternoon, Medowie’s Zone League 2 sides welcomed Cooks Hill United to Yulong Oval.

The Cooks Hill reserve grade side, who have only been beaten once in 2023, proved too strong, coming away 2-0 winners with goals to Jake North and Harry Cook.

Despite Medowie’s strong start, the Newcastle-based side also came out on top in a hard fought first grade fixture, with a double to English import Alec Geelan and further goals to Brady Connell and Kingston Hasson.

Medowie will take plenty of positives from the fixture however, despite the 4-0 scoreline, creating plenty of chances in both halves.

Medowie will now prepare this week to take on Nelson Bay FC on Saturday 10 June at Tomaree.
