“Many residents in Medowie either have slow internet or can’t connect at all, and the NBN is not due to be rolled out there till the end of next year,” Ms Swanson said.

“This work that Telstra is doing will mean 250 homes can connect to ADSL, and congestion should be relieved for many others.”

Following constant lobbying from Ms Swanson, Telstra confirmed last week it would construct a “top-hat” in the Pacific Dunes Estate, which will allow 250 homes to connect to ADSL, and “backhaul relief work” across Medowie, to relieve congestion and increase capacity. The work will be completed mid-year.

“This is fantastic news for the people of Medowie. I’m excited that we’ve been able to achieve action from Telstra on this much needed upgrade,” Ms Swanson said.

“I regularly follow discussions on social media where the people of Medowie talk about their issues, and the issue of internet is a hot topic. My office has raised these issues with Telstra, and Telstra has listened and acted.

“This work will hopefully provide some relief for long-suffering internet users in Medowie until the NBN is switched on at the end of next year.”
