Joshua represented NSW in the under-13 state hockey team at the National Championships held in October, and Amy was selected in the NSW Touch Development Team at the National Youth Championships in September.

Ms Swanson met with the budding sporting champions at Nelson Bay last week to acknowledge their achievements and congratulate them on receiving the grants, which are aimed at helping them represent NSW in their respective sports.

“Amy and Joshua are fine young athletes and I congratulate them on their achievements,” Ms Swanson said.

“Our community has a proud history of producing sporting champions, and it is important that we continue this tradition by supporting our champions of the future.

“Succeeding in sport doesn’t just take talent and determination; it often requires great financial sacrifices. I’m very pleased to be able to help these families with financial assistance through these grants.”

Ms Swanson invited other young athletes who had been chosen to compete at a state, national or international event, to apply for a grant in the next round of applications.

The round opens on March 1 and closes on June 30.
