Mayor David West was joined by Councillors Len Roberts, Karen Hutchinson, Troy Fowler, Claire Pontin and Peter Epov for the three day meeting.

Councillor Len Roberts told News Of The Area, “The keynote speaker was Steven Bradbury of ‘Last Man Standing’ fame, a former short track speed skater and four-time Olympian.”

Steven Bradbury won the 1,000 m event at the 2002 Winter Olympics after all of his opponents were involved in a last corner pile-up.

Len Roberts said, “He explained that the winning of a Gold Medal was not just 20 seconds of luck but years of perseverance overcoming very serious accidents (one race almost costing him his life) and still being there when it mattered.”

“His story was extremely inspirational and encouraging.”

“Apart from discussion of matters such as right to farm policies, equitable rating systems, Crown Land management, strategic land use and funding for infrastructure, “ Councillor Roberts said.

“It was also an opportunity to share ideas and get a sense of what was happening in city and smaller rural councils.”

“I was particularly pleased that the Premier spoke fondly of the reception she received from the people at Tea Gardens Police Station event.”

“She remarked how friendly the people were and was looking forward to coming back soon.”
