It’s also a big weekend for the Mums and Dads, who act as supporters, officials, and of course chauffeurs clocking up around 250 kilometres driving back and forth from the Championships.

“Athletics is an individual sport, so it’s great to go to one of these competitions as a team,” Melisa Brown told News Of The Area.

Melisa is the Secretary of the Myall Coast Little Athletics and a long jump official at the Wallsend Championships.

“We get them all chanting and make a big song and dance, it’s great way to get everyone to support each other,” Melissa said.

With 60 individual events, it’s sure to be a busy and tiring weekend.

“The aim is to go further and compete at a Regional level which is being held in February at Hunter Sports Centre in Glendale.’’

“The first three place getters in each event will go on to these Championships,” Melisa said.

The Little Athletics compete regularly in the spring/summer months at 5.30pm on Thursdays at Myall Park Oval, Hawks Nest.

The club is now in its seventh year and is open to three to 17-year-olds.

Melisa would also like to thank all the parents who volunteer their time and the Club’s sponsors, the Tea Gardens Country Club, Myall Pharmacy, Brighter Beginnings and Auroras Chinese Restaurant.
