WINTER is on the doorstep, the temperature has dropped, but that doesn’t stop the Myall Masters Swimming Club from hitting the water.

A small but determined team headed to the Central Coast recently to compete in the Ettalong Short Course event.

Round Six of the NSW branch point score event saw over 250 swimmers compete.

Injuries reduced the original Myall team of five down to three.

“Flying the Club flag and leading the way was the Club’s past President Christine Sefton with four wins in four events and maintaining her top 10 national ranking,” Valerie Mobbs told News Of The Area.

“Brad Jensen, the Club’s head coach, had two incredible swims.”

“He won the 100m Freestyle event with a Personal Best time.”

“Brad’s 25m Freestyle sprint has him currently rank third nationally in the 65-69 age bracket.

“Club President, Chris Lock, who has been struggling to find form of late, won both the 25m Fly and 100m Backstroke.

Nationally, Chris is currently ranked first in the 25m Fly 75-79 age bracket.

“I’m gobsmacked,” Chris said, having just recovered from a bout of infection.

Winter is no barrier to the Club’s dedication.

A large contingent from Myall Masters is heading to Yamba in early June to compete in one of the major events on the Country Masters Swim calendar.

“This event hosts the State of Origin Shootout Relay.”

While the Myall Masters Swimming Club is officially in winter recess, several swimmers head to Jimmys Beach just after seven in the morning to swim and walk every day to keep up their fitness levels.
