THERE is disappointment for the Myall Masters Swimming Club, having failed in its bid to secure a community grant from MidCoast Council to replace the broken solar heating at Tea Gardens Pool.
“We did a lot of work to get it going, but council didn’t have the funds,” club president Chris Lock told News Of The Area.
The club, however, is determined to continue its quest for the $40,000 needed to replace the solar unit.
The Myall Masters has now applied for a grant through Kate Washington’s Community Building Partnerships.
If that fails, they’re determined to raise the funds even if it means calling on the community to help.
Earlier this year, Rhonda Bobako secured more than 1,000 signatures on a petition to MidCoast Council calling for solar heating and maintenance work.
“The good news is that last week, the black lines were repainted and the green slime removed from the pool,” Rhonda said.
“It looks fantastic, like brand new,” Rhonda said.
“We’re very happy that the council has provided that maintenance.”
“Now we just need warm water.”
The Tea Gardens Swimming Pool opens for another season on Saturday 23 September.
