Residents of ‘The Haven’ decided to get into the ‘spirit of the Olympics’ and have their very own celebration by the Myall Quays lake.

With a gloriously sunny day, the bridge adorned with Olympic rings and the 20 neighbours donning some colourful outfits to participate in the many athletic events, beginning with a Kayak race across the lake.
Many fun events were enjoyed including three legged race; blind-folded egg & spoon race; slam dunk basketball, Rugby 7’s ball passing; golf; mini putt putt; quoits; pop-gun shooting and discus (thong throwing).
Organisers of the event Amanda and Marcus Sykes along with Sharon and Alan Townsend certainly put a lot of effort into the fun events created for the not-so-young athletes, with winners of each event presented with medals & certificates.
Amanda said she looked forward to it becoming a special event – but certainly not having to wait another 4 years to do it again!
The day finally culminating with an hilarious ‘Closing Ceremony’. Champion athlete and point scorer on the day was Eddie Lonsdale, with Judy Gilbert a very close runner-up.
It was voted a fun and fabulous day – the lake was alive with the laughter of all those competing!
Any seriousness was soon abated with many compulsory ‘refreshment breaks’ and followed with a delicious BBQ.
