Nambucca Heads Island Golf

GREAT weather for playing golf and without covid lockdown restrictions, so far.

With the course drying out, many players are enjoying the extra run on the fairways and some pretty good scores were recorded.

This week’s featured sponsor was Toyota Service Advantage – thank you.

On Tuesday 10 August, the Medley Single Stableford was won by Denise Paluch (19) with 42 points from Ross Morpuss (25) with 38 points.

Other good scores from Peter Miller 38, club sponsors Stephen Kimber (Nambucca Newsagents) & Steve Ward (A Pizza This) 37, and Maxine Townsend 36.

The ball rundown went to 32 on countback.

NTP’s went to Gary Rumble for the long putt on 2, Douglas Cheetham on 7, Henny Oldenhove got Subway’s voucher on 8, John Plummer got the Pizza voucher on 13, Dennis Ashton collects Stu’s ball on 15, and Doug Cheetham again on 18.

The Ladies played their Monthly Medal on Wednesday 11 August. Maxine Townsend (17) won Division one with net 66 from Sue Brooks (13) net 69.

Gross winner was Sue Brooks.

Division two was won by Jenny Thorne (26) with net 69 on countback from Debra Gersbach (28).

Gross winner was Jenny Thorne. Kerry Shearer (40) took out Division three with 71 net from Lillian Lukins (35) on net 73. Lillian also won the Gross.

Other good rounds from Jan Harris 70, Donna Easey 71, Kerrie Jackson & Denise Paluch 73 and the ball rundown went down to 78.

NTP’s went to Jennifer Johnston & Wendy Avery on 5, Cheryl Gilmour got the Pizza voucher on 13, and Debra Gersbach on 18 and Maxine Townsend won the Putting.

Thursday’s Medley Stableford on 12 August was played in two Divisions with Colin Wormleaton (8) winning Division one (scratch to 19) with 38 points from Bruce Mason (17) with 37 points.

In Division two (20 to 45), Roy Russell (20) top scored for the day with 46 points to win easily from Gary Laing (22) with 42 points.

Other good scores from Scott Burley 38, Colin Easey 37, Stuart Garvey & Michael Simpson 36.

The Ball rundown went to 33 on countback.

NTP’s went to Clyde Johnson for Ecomist’s long putt on 2, Joe Street got the newsagent’s ball on 5, Gary Thurlow on 7, Stuart Johnston got Subway’s voucher on 8, Ian Vidler got the Pizza voucher on 13, Paul Ryan got Stu’s ball on 15, and Liam fuller claimed the 18th.

The monthly ‘Island Challenge’ Stroke event was played on Friday 13 August, with some very good scores as players vied for a spot in the Top 5, and a chance to win ‘The Drive to Royal Pines’ at the end of the series (check out details on our Website).

Winner was Bruce Berry (4) with net 67 closely followed by Jennifer Johnston (23) with net 68.

Gross winner was Stephen Carr, just back from his successful shoulder operation.

The best lady score came from Linne Street with net 69 and Jan Harris was the only other player to play to their handicap.

NTP’s for a sleeve of balls went to Henny Oldenhove on 7, Bruce Berry on 15, Philip Mander on 18 and Judy Boyle got the Pizza voucher on 13.

Johnathon is working on updating the progressive results, so watch the notice board – I understand it’s very close at the top.

Saturday 14 August was the Men’s Monthly Medal sponsored by Nambucca Local Liquor – thanks Bushy.

In ‘A’ grade (scratch to 12) Colin Wormleaton (8) continued his good form to win with net 67 from Graham Weary (12) close behind with net 68. Stephen Carr won the Gross with 76.

In ‘B’ Grade (13 to 18), Mark McLaren (13) scored 68 net to win from Bruce Mason (16) net 69.

Gross winner was Paul Ryan 86.

In Division 3 (19 to 36), Bryan Ussher (19) won with net 66 on countback from Mark Blake (29).

Gross winner was Kel McGoldrick 90.

Other good scores from Paul Maxwell 66, Gregory Smith and Christopher Lucas 68, Drew Glasson & Ralph Taylor 69. The ball rundown went to 23 on countback.

NTP’s went to Christopher Lucas on 2 and 15, Geoff Brooks on 6, Greg McCoy on 7, John Nebauer got Subway’s voucher on 8, Greg McCoy almost holed out on 13 with 39cms to win the Pizza voucher, and Andrew Johnston got very close to 82 cms on 18.
