Nambucca Heads Island Golf

WHO would have thought we are in the first week of Summer?

Our golf calendar has been severely hampered by heavy downfalls, and the Course was unsuitable for carts and scooters on many days.

This week’s featured sponsor was “A Pizza This A Pizza That”, thank you Steve Ward.

Tuesday 30 November was a Medley Stableford with lots of visitors from Sydney and local clubs.

Division 1 (scratch to 21) was won by Seokho Park (20) from Strathfield with 39 points from Graham Watson (9) with 38 points.

Gregory Lucas (29) was the winner of Division 2 (22 to 45) with the best score of the day 41 points from Thea Kimber (26) with 35 points.

Other good scores from Rhonda Rowe 35, Ross Morpuss, Agatha Lee (The Lakes) and Hans Jansen 34, with the Ball Rundown to 32 on countback.

The first day of Summer – Wednesday’s Women’s event was rained out, with most of the Ladies meeting in the Clubhouse for coffee and various card games.

Thursday 2 December was a Medley Stableford, with threatening weather and no carts or scooters permitted on the soggy course, consequently, there was only a small field of 28 players.

The event was won by Andrew Johnston (22) with 36 points.

Other good scores from Joe Street & John Morgan 35, and the Ball Rundown to 31 points on countback.

Saturday 4 December was the Men’s Monthly Medal Stroke sponsored by Nambucca Local Liquor with the morning players lucky to avoid the severe thunderstorm that drowned the Island around 3pm, causing play to be suspended.

Not surprisingly, no players opted for a resumption of play.

In “A” Grade (scratch to 12) Greg Smith (10) won with net 66 from Sue Brooks (12) net 70.

Colin Wormleaton won scratch with 79. “B” Grade (13 to 18) was won by Urpo Ylinen (18) with net 67 from David Rosser (18) with net 69.

Paul Ryan was scratch winner with 86.

In “C” Grade (19 to 36), Chris Brownlie (21) was the winner with net 67 from Hans Jansen (23) with net 71. Scratch winner was Keith Elphick 93.

Other good scores from Peter Lake (Mullumbimby), Bill Mann, Walter Bortoletto & Leslie Mohr all with 72 net.

The Ball Rundown to 76 on countback.

Sunday 5 December’s Island Sunday Mixed 4BBB Stableford had to be cancelled due to inclement weather and course conditions.

Most players met in the Clubhouse at 3pm to enjoy some Christmas conviviality, Pizzas provided by our sponsor “A Pizza This A Pizza That”, Christmas nibbles and distribution of some amazing Kris Kringle gifts.

Please stay COVID safe and observe our Club’s Covid safe directives on course and in the Clubhouse.
