Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Croquet Australia has recently completed the development of a competency based coaching program, developed by a team of senior coaches under the direction of National Coaching Coordinator, Greg Bury. This program has been developed to provide a clear coaching pathway and to train coaches at all levels. To achieve qualification as a coach, candidates must demonstrate competency in teaching the general elements and croquet skills and tactics covered by the program at a number of levels: Level 1 – Introduction to croquet for players new to the game Level 2 – Skills and tactics for players at an intermediate level Level 3 – Skills and tactics for players at an advanced and/or interstate level Level 4 – Skills and tactics for Association Croquet players at an advanced level HPM – Skills and tactics for players at an international level. As part of the roll-out of the new coaching program, Croquet NSW organised sessions in Newcastle (January) and Canberra (February) to enable already accredited coaches to be certified under the new program. All seven of the accredited coaches from Nelson Bay Croquet Club attended the sessions at Newcastle National Park Croquet Club on 28, 29 and 30 January. As a result, the Club now has certified coaches as follows: Trevor Black: Certified Golf Croquet Level 3, Ricochet Croquet Level 1 and Association Croquet Level 2. Karen Lilly: Accredited Golf Croquet Level 1 Cheryl Lloyd: Certified Golf Croquet Level 2 Sandy Tawa: Certified Golf Croquet Level 2 Margaret Thompson: Certified Golf Croquet Level 2 and Ricochet Croquet Level 2 Susan Timbs: Certified Golf Croquet Level 1 David Wilson: Certified Golf Croquet Level 1 The Nelson Bay Croquet Club is committed to the new coaching program to ensure that high quality coaching is available to all members of the Club whether experienced players or newcomers to the game.
