Awards were also presented to recognise the efforts of the high achieving team of volunteers.

Amongst the recipients were Ian Mason and Phillip Mason who each received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest honour a Lion can receive.

During the formalities, President Arthur Baker thanked the members for their enthusiasm and support over the past 12 months.

“It’s about serving our community and helping where we can,” he said.

“We have achieved many great things, but the best is yet to come.”

Mr Baker said some of their recent projects include the Driver Reviver Program, School Breakfast Club, the Lions and Community Activity Park developments, assisting with Blue Light events, collecting for the Red Shield Appeal and delivering firewood.

In addition to donating funds to many local organisations, Mr Baker said the Club has contributed $5,000 to the statewide ‘Need to Feed’ drought relief appeal.

“Primary producers are really struggling,” he said.

“It is really drying up on the East Coast and Lions Clubs are constantly engaged with NSW farmers and looking for ways to assist,” Myall Lakes MP Stephen Bromhead added.

Other members of the newly invested Board include Vice-President Judy Dixon, Secretary Ruth Butler, Treasurer Ian Mason, Lion Tamer Phil Gardiner and Public Officer Rodney Lansdowne.

Past District Governor Kate Milford OAM congratulated the Lions for their continued hard-work and dedication to their community.

“Bulahdelah has its own special character and the Lions are destined to achieve great things for the town,” she said.

The dinner also provided the opportunity to welcome two new members, Ash and Aleesha Ray, who were formally inducted by District Governor Glenn Byrnes.

Mr Baker said the Lions are looking forward to a productive year with plans for many worthwhile community projects and initiatives.
