In what can only be described as a win for the community the upgrade to Apex Park will see improved connections between the waterfront and Marina precinct and the town CBD.

Apex Park is set to see an amphitheatre on the hillside, new lighting, with wider footpaths and stairway to the foreshore.

Meanwhile Robinson Reserve at Anna Bay will receive $700,000 going towards a new district scale playground, skate-park, Aboriginal Place interpretative signage, BBQ facilities, accessible amenities block, native landscaping and supporting park infrastructure.

Catherine Cusack told News Of The Area, “This One Million Dollars in funding will rejuvenate these public places for residents and visitors.”

The funds are through the Stronger Country Communities funding program, which is part of the NSW Government’s $1.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to improve economic growth and productivity in regional communities.

Mayor Ryan Palmer told News Of The Area, “Council is working hard to get projects implemented for the community.”

He believes that Apex Park is a divide between the CBD and the foreshore and that this work will bring them closer together, through holding concerts and markets.

It’s about creating connections,” he said.

Councillors Abbott, Smith, Nell and Dunkley all thanked Catherine Cusack and the NSW Government for the funding which will see the projects delivered for the community.

Councillor Abbott said, “I am excited about the $80,000 amphitheatre for Apex Park and have a vision of seeing Friday night concerts being held similar to events in Taronga Park Zoo.”

Rory Milne a long term trader in the Nelson Bay CBD and member of the Tomaree business Chamber told News Of The Area, “I think this is a wonderful achievement of Council to get the funding.

Apex Park is a significant part of Nelson Bay and this will be well received,” he said.

Councillor Sarah Smith said, “Anna Bay is close to my heart, improving the town with this project will see residents and visitors very excited.”

John Nell commented “It’s great to finally start the rejuvenation of Apex Park, the community has asked and we can now do lots of work thanks to these two grants.”

Work is expected to commence in the second half of the year.
