The NSW Swifts will visit Port Stephens from Monday 1 July 2019 as part of the NSW Netball Regional Development Program.

Mayor Ryan Palmer says it’s a fantastic opportunity to promote the sport with local youth.

“The Swifts are one of the biggest clubs in the country, so it’s very exciting to have them come to Port Stephens and get to know our local netball community,” Mayor Palmer said.

“Our local netball associations will host and facilitate the Swifts’ visit. It’s all about promoting netball and a healthy lifestyle to our young people.”

“This a fantastic opportunity for our future netball superstars to learn new techniques, meet the players and get insight into the world of professional sport,” he said.

Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator Janelle Gardner says the visit has been made possible by the help of clubs, schools and businesses.

“Council is very proud to support the Swifts’ regional development camp and the Port Stephens community have gone above and beyond to make them feel welcome,” Ms Gardner said.

“The local sporting clubs, schools and businesses have come together to accommodate the Swifts’ players and their staff. Thou Walla Sunset Retreat will also be hosting the Swifts during their stay. It really has been a team effort to make this visit a reality.

“This is not only a great opportunity for our local netball community but also for Port Stephens overall. The NSW Swifts have a large online presence and while here, they will be promoting the best of Port Stephens to their audience,” she said.

Nikki Horton, NSW Swifts General Manager says this trip means a great deal to the team.

“We are delighted to be heading to Port Stephens next month for what promises to be wonderful trip,” Ms Horton said.

“While logistics mean most of our games are played in Sydney, we are the NSW Swifts and are a team that proudly represents the whole state so it’s very important that we visit the regions.

“We did a similar trip last season to the West Central West region of the state and were blown away by the reception our players and staff were given.

“Port Stephens is one of the most beautiful parts of NSW, with a passionate netball community, and I know this trip will provide amazing, life-long memories for our players and young fans like,” she added.

The NSW Swifts will hold an open training session at Tomaree High Multi-Purpose Centre (Indoor Court) from 5.30 to 7.15pm on Tuesday 2 July 2018.
