Officer injured during arrest of wanted man in Coffs Harbour

 

A MAN has been charged after a police officer was injured during an arrest in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday.

About 3.30pm on Wednesday 24 March 2021, officers from the Coffs/Clarence Proactive Crime Team were patrolling the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour, when they saw a man who was wanted on outstanding warrants near the Argyll Street intersection.

The 33-year-old man allegedly ran from police and was pursued on foot by officers.

A male senior constable attempted to apprehend the man, however he resisted and a struggle ensued, during which both men hit the window of a nearby parked car.

The window shattered, causing the officer to sustain serious lacerations to his face, arm and body.

Other officers assisted and arrested the 33-year-old.

The senior constable was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus in a stable condition.

Once released, the man was charged with break and enter house etc steal value <= $60,000, two counts of break and enter dwelling with intent (steal) and drive whilst disqualified.

He was refused bail to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Thursday 25 March 2021.
