81 Marine Drive, Tea Gardens is now home to “The Gallery” an artwork in itself.

The not-for profit community art group “Galleries in the Gardens” has turned the once neglected house into a permanent home for the works of its creative members who are all local to the Myall Coast.

Having traded now for a few weeks, The Gallery has already attracted over 1,900 visitors and received lots of positive comments not only for the beautiful surrounds, but also the quality and variety of artwork inside.

“It is an exciting time for Galleries In the Gardens (GIG), President of the Group, Trevor Cook said.

“We have been delighted with the feedback.”

“Quite a few visitors have said The Gallery compares favourably with those in the capital cities,” Trevor added.

“That’s not a bad pat on the back for the working bee volunteers who have rejuvenated this landmark inside and out over the last five months.”

Now it is time for the grand opening of this latest Tea Gardens attraction, the celebration to be held on Friday 19 January from 5 pm to 8pm.

Mark Tedeschi, AM QC, who once owned ‘Nicole’s Café’, will officially open The Gallery.

Mr Tedeschi is an award-winning photographer and author with a strong interest in the arts, a high-profile barrister and law professor.

The group’s latest artworks will be on display and a fundraising raffle will give the chance to win three special paintings by artist Lorna Hopcroft.

The Gallery is open every day except Tuesdays, 10am to 4pm.

Shortly, on Wednesdays, the group will recommence ArtSpeak, where members and others gather to get creative while socialising.
