ONE would be hard pressed to find a person who has squeezed more out of life than Medowie resident, Pastor Arthur Magrath. Arthur has been a Medowie resident since he moved here to take up the position as Pastor of Medowie Christian Family church, an Assemblies of God Church, in July 1990. He remained the Pastor there until April 2015, seeing the Church through many wonderful changes, and their involvement and founding of many community based endeavours. Email us today for a quote: ads@mcnota.com.au The church initially held their meetings at Medowie Public School, then Wirreanda Public School, before moving to the Medowie Community Centre, where it still resides, known as Medowie Assembly of God Church. Arthur is husband to his beloved Beryl, father to eight sons, grandfather to five, and great-grandfather to three. Pastor Arthur Magrath was named Port Stephens Citizen of the Year in 2013 for his wonderful contributions to our community. During his time as Pastor, Arthur opened the Opportunity Knocks shop in Medowie plaza, operated work for the dole programs all over the community, computer courses for seniors, became chaplain for the Fire Brigade opened our very first soup kitchen in Medowie, which led to our Foodway program – featured in this edition of Medowie News Of The Area. Arthur has achieved so much for our community, and despite his retirement in 2015, does not appear to have slowed down much at all. He is well known and admired in the community, and always has time for a chat. He genuinely cares for the community and has worked his entire life to make a difference. Arthur told News Of The Area, “Please allow this 79 year old just one more liberty. My special thanks go to my family for their support and assistance, as do my thanks to Adam Cook and his wife Lisa who have taken over much of my work.” “I am gone from this work, but there is still much to be done – know when to run, when to rest, and when to stop and encourage others instead,” said Arthur.
