Twice a year, the group holds a “craft giving morning” and in June the group’s focus was on the Red Cross with donations of hand knitted blankets, trauma teddies and baby rabbits all kindly given to our hard-working, local Red Cross representative, Jennifer Wenham.
News of the Area asked Jennifer about how the donations would be distributed and she said, “All the blankets are delivered to the homeless, mainly women and children sleeping in cars and also to refuge centres in the Newcastle area.
“The trauma teddies are delivered to medical centres (local and away) as well as pathology rooms, ambulance stations and hospitals and I have to say how very generous our local community is in their support of the Red Cross.”
SKILLS co-ordinator, Ruth Calcutt, told News of the Area, “These donations were hand-made by many ladies including residents from Peter Sinclair Gardens and Estia Health.
“It is very rewarding to witness the nursing home residents still being able to feel part of the community with their keen participation in our local SKILLS group.”
