Police investigate following reports about assault

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the wounding of a man at Raymond Terrace overnight.

About 6.30pm (Wednesday 3 August 2016), emergency services were called to Mount Hall Road, Raymond Terrace, following reports a man had been assaulted.

On arrival, officers from Port Stephens Local Area Command located a 28-year-old man bleeding from the back of his head.

Police were told the man was walking home after drinking at licensed premises when he was struck in the head by an unknown person who fled.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

No one else was injured.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
