IT’S that time of year again, the Williamtown Defence Family Group (WDFG) are starting the Deployment Care Packages project and they’d love to invite everyone to participate.

This year the project will run from 12 October to 6 November collecting donations (for box top ups) and individuals filling packages to be sent to deployed troops, and it’s not too late to join in.

The group has 200 boxes available for pick up from any of the collection centres including Fighterworld, Williamtown Preschool, Defence Bank, Australian Military Bank and Overflow Church Medowie.

You can participate by making a donation of items or by filling one or more boxes and returning it unsealed to the collection centre.

The WDFG will then collect the items or boxes and prepare them for postage to the troops.

Feedback from troops in 2017 showed that brand name products that remind the troops of home is what they miss the most.

Tim Tams, Starburst, small Vegemite, Arnott’s biscuits and nuts are difficult to find and much more expensive than in Australia, so these thoughtful items are very appreciated.

Each box comes with a letter of suggestions to help participants make the best care package possible.

The WDFG would like to recognise their volunteers and supporters for their help so far; East Maitland RSL, Williamtown Preschool, Raymond Terrace Lions Club, Defence Health, Overflow Church Medowie,

Fighterworld, Australian Military Bank and Defence Bank.

Krystal Rowell, WDFG President, told News Of The Area, “We hope the local communities can support the deployment care packages program again, and we look forward to sharing this experience with you.”

“We are having a community packing day at Williamtown Preschool on Saturday November 10th.”

“We will set up stations and be checking and preparing all care packages until finished, approximately 9-5pm.”

“Deployment care packages are very well received and members are very grateful of any item you
decide to place in this very special box,” she said.

In 2017 the Williamtown care packages travelled as far as the Middle East, Iraq and South Sudan in Africa.
