50 competitors and officials from across Australia will converge on Port Stephens next Sunday 21 May for the Multi-Disability Lawn Bowls National Championships.

The six-day tournament will be held at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, with 95 per cent of competitors coming from outside Port Stephens.

Cheryl Benbow of Allworth and Bryce Williams of Lemon Tree Passage, are two locals who will be representing the region.

Janelle Gardner, Council’s Tourism and Events Coordinator, says Council is proud to support this event.
“We’re committed to creating opportunities for not just accessible, but inclusive, tourism experiences across the region,” Ms. Gardner said.
“Council is currently in the process of updating its Disability Inclusion Action Plan, and in line with that, events like the Bowls Championship improve the quality of experiences available in our region for people living with a disability.”

Ms. Gardner says attracting inclusive events benefits the entire region.

“This event will showcase Port Stephens to people from all over Australia, and is expected to boost the local economy by almost $200,000 in just one week.”

The tournament includes men’s single, women’s singles, men’s B5/6 pairs, men’s B7/8 pairs, women’s pairs and open triples
