She was also named Dux of the school for the year.

Doug Jacka of Legacy presented her with the PSLG Alan Hudson OAM and Bart Richardson OAM Certificate of Achievement for outstanding academic results in the HSC 2018.

The talented student who is now enrolled at the University of Sydney also received a cheque to assist in meeting the costs associated with her further studies.

Dan is studying economics as well as a number of other courses. Her aim is to join the RBA on completion of her studies.

Doug Jacka told News Of The Area, “The passing of two of our original founders, Legatees Alan Hudson OAM and Bart Richardson OAM, in 2017, prompted PSLG to honour the two men’s service to the community by naming this prestigious Achievement Award after them.

“Both men were veterans of World War II.

“They were highly regarded throughout the Port Stephens region and as mentors and leaders by those Legatees who followed in their footsteps.”

Legacy has had a long-standing commitment to aiding the families of former servicemen and in raising funds for this purpose.

In the Nelson Bay, Fingal Bay, Salamander Bay, Shoal Bay and Tilligerry Peninsula areas, PSLG assists nearly 245 widows and their children who look to Legacy for varying levels of support, advice and social interaction.

Most are elderly ladies but, sadly, there is now a need to help families of our service people from more recent hostilities and peace-keeping operations in Borneo, Malaya, Indonesia, Somalia, The Solomon Islands, Rwanda, Timor, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

“Legacy are most grateful for the support we continually receive from Tomaree High School, its students and staff.”

“For many years we have been delighted to have had the invaluable, cheerful and very willing assistance of many young men and women from the school during our fundraising badge days in the various shopping centres around the Bays.

The school also has been generous in making the facilities of the Tomaree Education Centre available for the Legacy Band Concert which is held annually as entertainment for our widows and supporters.

“The Education Achievement Award goes some way towards showing our appreciation to Tomaree High School,” he said.
