Judge Helen Mizrachi: Short story competition now open for aspiring writers.

 

THE annual Port Stephens Literature Awards are now open and the judges are eagerly awaiting entries Long time judge Helen Mizrachi said, “The ten preliminary judges all look forward to reading and assessing the short stories.”

“That’s why we need a month or so to come up with the top twenty,” she said.

Ms Mizrachi said, “Each judge gives marks to the stories and we then have a round table discussion to decide which ones are forwarded to the three finalists’ judges.”

“They independently rate the stories from one to 20. Chief judge and former Tanilba Bay school principal Lloyd Hogg then tallies the points to decide the winners,” she said.

“It’s a long and exhaustive process but we have not come up with anything fairer over the last ten or 15 years the competition has been running,” Ms Mizrachi said.
