Fifteen businesses generously contributed $36,000 collectively to the scholarship pool – the largest amount ever received.

Valued at $2,000 each, the scholarships provide financial assistance to residents from the Port Stephens local government area who are starting university or TAFE in 2018.

Ampcontrol, Destination Port Stephens, Hunter Land, Hunter Readymixed Concrete, Macka’s Sand and Soil Supplies, McDonald Jones Homes, Newcastle Airport, Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, Salamander Bay Recycling, Soldiers Point Bowling Club, Suez Recycling and Recovery, Telstra Shop – Salamander Bay, Tomago Aluminium, Weathertex and The Wests Group Australia all contributed to the 2018 program.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says the program highlights the capability and dedication of our local students.

“It’s fantastic to see the students of Port Stephens so committed not only their own professional development, but also wanting to give back to their community through their professional choices,” Mayor Palmer said.

“From student paramedics, doctors and chemical engineers to wildlife conservation and environmental studies, the talent and determination of our students here in Port Stephens is something to be very proud of,” he added.

Mayor Palmer says he is immensely proud to have such an array of businesses supporting this important initiative.
“This year, we have a record number of 18 scholarships totalling $36,000, which shows that Port Stephens businesses know the value of supporting the aspirations of our future leaders,” Mayor Palmer said.
