The event is in its fourth year and will see two classes of yachts compete for line honours.

The fleet will go under starting orders on Wednesday at 1pm at Soldiers Point and they will sail a course past Georges Reserve, over to Wedding Cake near the mouth of the Myall River, back past Georges Reserve and finish at Soldiers Point.

The race is a handicap which makes for tight finishes which can be spectacular viewing.

Roger Yeo who is the Vice Commodore of the Port Stephens Yacht Club told News Of The Area, “The event is about creating awareness in different parts of our community about domestic violence and in support of the White Ribbon Campaign.”

He believes that it is important for men to take the oath and make it a part of their lives to be advocates for the safety of women.

“I’m looking forward to the race, which will have two categories one for the smaller boats that will complete the course once and the other where larger yachts will complete the circuit twice,” he said.

Roger is responsible for the sailing clubs race notices, course selection and assists with handicapping. He has had many years sailing as a sailing club administrator both here and overseas.

The Port Stephens Yacht Club is happy to take entries for the event and encourages people to enjoy the race from the various vantage points around the Bay.
