PORT Stephens Council has many different volunteers and groups that help make our region a better place to live.
There are over 850 active volunteers performing a range of tasks.
From guiding visitors at the Visitors Information Centre in Apex Park Nelson Bay, to planting and cleaning up our parks, the region is fortunate to have residents that make an effort.
We also have volunteers on our Sports Council, in our libraries, in Landcare and Tidy Towns groups, on Halls Committees, at Ngioka Centre and on our Sister Cities Committees.
Melinda Anderson of Port Stephens Council told News Of The Area, “Council asks a lot of our volunteers and while the volunteers add value to our environment it is a two way street.”
“Some committees are more active than others, but they all offer great value to the community.”
“Many enjoy a sense of camaraderie and gain a huge sense of satisfaction when they see the results of their labours,” she said.
Port Stephens has some great facilities like the Hinton School Of The Arts Building which is of historic significance, and the Medowie Community Centre which is a real hub for the area.
Both of these facilities are managed by community volunteers in Council’s Halls Committees.
