Once the staple of evening entertainment, CHATS will be bringing back the Radio Play to Coffs Harbour radio audiences, starting with Shakespeare’s classic tragedy ‘Romeo & Juliet’.

CHATS had planned to present the play on stage in March this year, but postponed it with a view to producing it on stage in October.

Unfortunately current restrictions and other COVID-19 related issues have forced the cancellation of the stage version.

Director Beckley Vincent said, “We are extremely disappointed that we aren’t able to get the show on the stage, but the opportunity to deliver it via the radio, particularly given that people are spending more time at home at the moment, is an intriguing challenge.”

The broadcast will be split over six episodes and include Directors notes and discussion of the play and the characters.

Work is underway to record the play with the first broadcast scheduled for the evening of Saturday 26 September from 7pm.

2AIRFM and CHATS plan to continue with further radio plays over coming months, with titles such as ‘Sense and Sensibility’ and ‘Little Women’ currently under consideration.

CHATS will advertise casting calls online and in The News Of The Area in the coming months.
