“There are over 8,000 books and magazines on offer covering a wide variety of interesting subjects,” Rotary’s Ian Mackenzie Smith told News Of The Area.

“There are titles on Sport, Cooking, Arts and Craft, Gardening and many more.”

“The favourite table is the kid’s books.”

“There are hundreds of Children’s volumes from toddlers to teens and they race out the door,” Ian said.

Hardbacks and paperbacks include many of the latest publications as well as many old favourites.

Magazines are sold by the bag while the books are measured up and sold by the centimetre of thickness.

There are CD’s and DVD’s for sale as well as a large number of vinyl records that a making a comeback.

And if you still have an old VHS player there are plenty of those as well.

Rotary Club spends months gathering the collection together and enlist the community’s help.

“Thanks to the generous support from members of our community in donating pre-used books and thanks to the strong backs of the life savers from the Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest Surf Lifesaving Club, we are able to stock up the tables at the Hawks Nest Community Hall in Booner Street in quick time,” Ian said.

The Giant Book sale runs over three days from Friday 5 January, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 January.

Doors at the Hawks Nest Community Hall open at 9am and close at 4pm except on Sunday when they close at 2pm.

The funds raised at the Book Sale are distributed back into the Community to help our sporting and charitable organisations.
