At times there simply isn’t enough cash to go around and families even go without basic needs.

They struggle to fill the pantry and to feed their children.

Soldiers Point Lions Club has been helping to provide food hampers for our local community for over two years at a cost of $1800 per year.

President of Soldiers Point Lions Club Sharon Blunt told News Of The Area, “The food is bought and paid for by the Lions Club and delivered to on alternative months to the Yacaaba Centre and Tomaree Neighbourhood Centre.

Both the Yacaaba Centre and Tomaree Neighbourhood Centre offer emergency relief programs which assist individuals in crisis and homelessness.

The Lions raise the funds to donate the food through Club BBQs at markets and other venues.

“All funds go directly back into our community so if you are interested in helping to assist us in our endeavours for our community in need, please consider joining Soldiers Point Lions Club.

“You would become part of a great friendly team of volunteers who work so hard to aid those in need and all you have to do is call 0490 060 943,” she said.

The Lions Club of Soldiers Point are committed to supporting our local community and support The Real Futures Foundation deliver programs for Port Stephens Youth as well as conducting projects like the refurbishment of parks and they are currently embarking on a program to install quality public art in bus shelters around the Peninsula.
