Stronger Communities Grants allocated to Myall Coast groups

There Myall Coast community groups were amongst the recipients of the Stronger Communities Grants announced at last week’s MidCoast Council meeting.

Hawks Nest Bridge Club received $33,000 for the Community Arts and Cultural Building project and Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Preschool was allocated $30,000 for playground improvements.

North Arm Cove Residents’ Association was also amongst the recipients receiving $47,940 for the ‘Give Us A Heart’ project to establish a community precinct at the heart of the village.

Over $500,000 was allocated to 17 community projects throughout the MidCoast region.

Director Community Spaces and Services Paul De Szell said 70 applications for funding had been received.

“The panel appointed to work through the projects had an extremely tough job in selecting funding recipients,” he said.

The Stronger Communities Fund was established by the NSW Government to assist merged councils improve community infrastructure and services.

Mr Szell said additional funding will be made available in 2017.

“The second part of our Stronger Communities Grant Program is yet to come, and we look forward to welcoming applications again around June next year,” he said.
