The purpose of the Development Carnival is to encourage new swimmers to learn how to race and to experience competition rules in a relaxed environment. A number of new swimmers who had not raced attended to obtain their first qualifying time. Other swimmers attended to improve existing times and obtain a Personal Best (PB) while striving to reach regional qualifying time.

Will Bradshaw (11) from Raymond Terrace was present at just his second carnival.

Will swam several races and obtained a big 3.4 second PB in his 100 freestyle.

Will is a dedicated swimmer who is steadily improving and is attempting races across all his strokes. Our newest swimmers to compete were the Slater siblings, Jack (9) , Matthew (8) and Ella (11) from Medowie. Jade Smith (13) from Clarence Town again had a good solid carnival and achieved a significant PB of 1.44 seconds in her 100m freestyle.

The Slater family attended their first carnival and were able to record official times and even won medals.

All three were able to complete a variety of races from 25m breaststroke to 100 freestyle.

Coach Michael Abel attended the meet and was exceptionally pleased with the progress made by many of the new swimmers.

Medowie Senior Swimmer Grace Gray attended to assist Coach Abel in explaining to the newer club members the process of pre-race warm up and marshalling and to help with race timing and performance and race debriefing.
Much thanks to all the parents who assisted with timekeeping – Warren, Claire, Slater family and Gray family.

Coach Michael Abel believes the new swimmers are progressing well and will soon be able to compete at qualifying carnivals and the Country Regional Carnival to be held at Armidale.
