It shows girls that they can have a career in a role that is not traditionally for women.

Tomaree High School and the Real Futures Foundation held a SALT workshop which was all about supporting and linking Tradeswomen.

The Real Futures Foundation assists students at risk of disengaging from education to stay in education and find a career path that inspires and motivates them.

Rivergum Grandparents as Parents also recently hosted a SALT workshop both were funded through the Dept. Of Industry.

At this workshop young people learnt how to use tools and made a tool caddy.

The S.A.L.T. Workshop was a perfect vehicle for girls to find out if they would like to think about getting into a trade.

The purpose of Rivergum Grandparents as Parents is to make a difference in the lives of young people being brought up through kinship care.

Everyone knows being a parent is no stroll in the park but for some locals they are doing something a little different and for a variety of reasons they are now bringing up their grandchildren.

They also provide somewhere to go every week to get information, and just be a part of a close knit “family”.

Rivergum Grandparents as Parents Group are very pro-active in a lot of areas and we chase all kinds of information to help carers and the children, giving them access to numerous benefits, with holidays, major outings and services otherwise not known about without the knowledge of many carers with many years of experience in the system.

Gavin Breen of Rivergum Grandparents as Parents Support Group Inc. told News Of The Area, “If you are a kinship career and you want to just have a chat with one of our committee members call Cheryl on 0411019995 or Gavin on 0413142296.

“You will be glad you called, as is the feeling of the large number of new members in the last six months have said a number of times at our meetings since joining us.

“Its only a phone call and a few minutes of your time, to possibly, change your life,” he said.
